St Gingolph to Menton via the GR5, GR55 and GR52
Hi, Coincidentally, I did the Pyrenees last year and planning the GR5 this. I'd like to camp each night rather than stay in refuges. I'm told this is less easy in the Alps than the Pyrenees. What is your view on this?It is all on; http://www.rogerodoherty.com/I'm thinking of Colorado for 2014.
Hi Roger, Thanks for your message. The GR5 was pretty good, but nowhere near as remote and unspoiled as the Pyrenees. For the GR5 I stayed in refuges and hotels every night to avoid carrying camping gear. This wasn't a bad idea, given how awful the weather was for the first week. I'm sure you could camp along the trail, but the Alps are nothing like as quiet and deserted as the Pyrenees.
